The aim of presenting monthly Windowspace exhibitions is to showcase contemporary installations at street level to both Cairns Regional Gallery visitors and to a wider audience of passers-by. Artists are invited to create work specifically designed for the two wood-paneled windows recessed into the side wall of the Gallery on Abbott Street.

To regularly fill the Windowspace program, the Gallery maintains an informal partnership with Kick Arts as the pre-eminent Contemporary Arts organisation in Tropical North Queensland. Since 1996, most window installations have been mounted by Kick Arts members.

Feedback is overwhelmingly positive and the Gallery plans to continue the program into the future, as windows of opportunity for the skills and imagination of contemporary artists of the region.
