KickArts Contemporary Arts is the leading contemporary visual arts organisation in regional Queensland and one of the most innovative in the state. Based in Cairns, with a demographic encompassing Far North Queensland and extending into the remote and regional communities of Cape York and Zenadh Kes (Torres Strait), KickArts is dedicated to facilitating and promoting contemporary arts and extending the experience and cultural life of northern Australians and the 2.2 million annual visitors to Cairns.

In April 2004 KickArts, in partnership with JUTE Theatre, opened the Centre of Contemporary Arts, a unique and innovative new multi-purpose contemporary arts facility, located at 96 Abbott Street in the central business district of Cairns. The Centre is animated by KickArts's creative program of gallery exhibitions and the KickArts Shop on a daily basis, forming a catalyst and hub featuring Australian and International artists.
In March 2009 KickArts officially opened Djumbunji Press KickArts Fine Art Printmaking. This new fine art printmaking studio provides major cultural infrastructure for Cairns and artists across Far North Queensland and has been made possible by the Queensland Government through its Backing Indigenous Arts program. James Cook University have generously supported this project by providing a satellite building in the Cairns Cultural Precinct on Greenslopes Street.

The services that will be offered through the studio include: workshops from beginners to master classes, an open access studio for printmakers to print their own editions, custom printing for artists who do not want to print their own work, commissioning of new works and an Artist In Residence program. KickArts will commission and publish new works of art that will be professionally distributed to commercial galleries, collectors, public institutions and online. KickArts will also curate printmaking exhibitions that will be toured nationally and internationally.

KickArts activities have become a recognised benchmark and a link for the local and transitory tourist community alike to experience the vital and unique contemporary visual culture of northern Australia.

KickArts is a not for profit company limited by guarantee and has a Board of Directors who are responsible for the strategic direction and financial management of the company. The KickArts Board of Directors employs professional staff to manage the business of KickArts and together they have led the company from strength to strength. It should be noted that KickArts has had the collective support of many generous volunteers over its 16 year history, without whom we would not be where we are today.
KickArts is financially supported by Arts Queensland and the Australia Council for the Arts, by artists and many Sponsors and Patrons. The results from this fantastic support facilitate the ever expanding creative contemporary art program.

KickArts raises over 60% of its revenue through its commercial activities, sponsorship and donations. These provide substantial and essential funding that is reinvested back into our creative program which extends the understanding and appreciation of contemporary culture.

KickArts would like to thank all those who come together to make our organisation the leading contemporary art organisation of Far North Queensland.
